That Karen surrounded the main characters with children of exceptional interests does not hurt. Entwined with vivid imagery of both landscape and community, the fast paced story keeps the reader turning pages. Laced with humor in the face of danger, the characters grow from the first page to the end. Karen Witemeyer is an author with a unique voice which I thoroughly enjoy, (and i have read most of her earlier novels, if not all of them) and this latest novel by her is no exception.
